• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I have just had to replace my ageing laptop and am spending the evening installing all the software that I use (deep joy!). On trying to download sketchup, I can only find a web version, not a downlodable file. Is this the only way to get the free version now? Or am I missing something blindingly obvious......?

Ta!

Steve,

I think you're right. DaveR will probably be able to confirm, but I think they stopped the downloadable versions a couple of years ago.

Yes they don't want you using stand alone any more.

The file to search for (Windows) is sketchupmake-2017-2-2555-90782-en-x64.exe and pasting that into google should get you somewhere to download it.

It is 155,205,312 bytes when you check properties. If you get stuck I can upload my copy and give you a link.

I guess a little late to the party but here is the official page for downloading SketchUp.
https://www.sketchup.com/download/all

FWIW, if you are using Windows, make sure you install SketchUp correctly by right clicking on the downloaded installer and choosing Run as administrator from the context menu. If you didn't do that, it would be wise to repair the installation. Right click on the installer, select Run as administrator and then choose Repair.

I know time has moved on somewhat but this seems to be the right thread for this!

Currently trying to download of version of sketchup for a new mac and can only find web based versions unless I plump for a paid for version (too many versions!). Is this how they do it now or are there still a download somewhere?

There's a link in a post a few above this, have you tried that? It's SketchUp Make 2017 you need, that's the last downloadable version.

As Mark wrote...

At the link I provided.

You do need to be signed in to download it.

As a hobbyist you have two options for using SketchUp for free. Either SketchUp 2017 Make or SketchUp Free (browser-based). If you are using it for your business you would use either SketchUp Pro (2021 is the current version) or SketchUp Shop (browser-based) or both.

Mark, yes I did try the link but it only took me to web based versions. Dave’s subsequent post tells me I have to be signed in to access the version of make which I’ll do tomorrow.

Thanks both for your help.

Success, - in the end!

Finally managed to get it installed. A very different process on the Mac and one that will keep me in swearing material for a while to come I suspect.

Good deal.

From the installation instructions:

Locate and double-click on the Installer file (DMG file, probably in your Downloads folder). This will mount the installer drive and open a window with a SketchUp icon on it.

Drag the SketchUp icon and Drop it in the Applications folder to copy the application to your computer.

You'll see a progress bar as the files are copied, once this is complete you'll have a new SketchUp folder under Applications.

To launch SketchUp you'll navigate to the SketchUp folder and Double Click the SketchUp icon.

Have just downloaded this and it look good, thank you for the links. I got the 2017 mac version.

I've been gifted an old 2009 imac which I'm going to use in my workshop. Unfortunately I don't have an Internet connection there so I wanted to install the 2017 version of sketchup which is, frankly more than enough for my needs, but I can't seem to find it. Newer versions need newer versions of chrome which my mac can't run.

Does anyone have the .DMG they could throw in Dropbox/google drive or somehting. I understand it's unsupported

You could search cnet.com for it. Just be careful. It could come with stuff you might not want.

Andy, I'm pretty sure that I have the .dmg somewhere or other as I'm using 2017 on my Mac.

Much easier for me to stick it on an old SD card and mail it to you. It will take forever to upload it this end.

Thanks Roger, if I don't find it in one of my backups I'll take you up on that :)

It's no longer available from those download pages.

Yes, Trimble removed it from their site about 6 weeks ago.
