• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

A 'heads up' really for you chaps with stuff that need sharpening. Last year this firm collected a set of planer blades from Salisbury for re-sharpening and then dropped them off at my home the following week...a first class collection and delivery service. They're based in Havant and unfortunately won't come come out as far as Salisbury any more as their margin was too small, but I've just sent off via the postie, two sets of p/t blades for re-sharpening at £3.04+VAT per blade.
However, if you happen to be within a reasonable distance of Havant, give them a call and they'll collect your stuff for sharpening, usually on a Thursday and drop it off again the following week, when you just give the driver a fistful of cash. Highly recommended, no connection or affiliation btw - Rob

That gives me an idea... I picked up a brand new PT blade jig for the Tormek for a pittance a while back. I could potentially offer the same service, via post, to the forum for a couple of beer tokens... ;)
 
Interesting Rob! I normally drop my sawblades into Sawtec in Eastleigh and have just had 3 done £8 + vat for <40 teeth. They also fitted a new tooth for £3.50 plus vat. I've not tried a collection service but I expect they do it too.

Like Mark, I too have the Tormek planer knife jig but it is limited on length so for my new (ish) 15" thicknesser I either need to make a tormek copy or look at professional sharpening. Might give Spindex a try.

I had one of those jigs Mark and although excellent, they're a pain in the buttocks to set up, so I flogged it on some time ago. Much less 'faff' to pay a firm like Spindex to sort out my pt blades and know that each one will be perfick...whereas you won't know if each is identical with that Tormkek jig - Rob

To my limited way of thinking, it does. Consider that even if one blade weighs a teensy bit more or less than the other ones, it may throw the whole block out of balance when it's spinning at 11000rpm (or whatever). When you get them professionally ground, there's a better than even chance that they'll be identical when you get them back.
The only problem then is that you have to be able to set them up (assuming three blades) spot on in the block - Rob
 
I sent off two sets of blunt planer blades, second class on Monday and received two sets of sharp planer blades from the postie on Friday lunchtime. Not too shabby :D - Rob
 
I did post something similar on UKW last Friday, but definitely no April Fool gag from moi...would I ever do such a thing? :lol: :lol: - Rob
