• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Hi all,

Just sold a couple of these, cut with a scroll saw and then plenty of sanding and gluing, quite effective tho'

They are quite a challenge but very satisfying when finished.

however also a s a new twist i had a load of old bits of pine that I had cut for doorstops, but as every market i went to I only ever sold about two door stops I decided to create a hanging sculpture with them.
just mucking about really but I think quite effective and at least thats one box out the workshop.

Fabulous work, Martyn :eusa-clap: . After seeing your other posts I'm hungry to see even more from you.

If all goes well in the New Year I should be returning to my scroll saw after being laid off for several years with health issues :eusa-dance: .

I have been scratching my head for days trying to work out how those spirals are made.

Glad you like the spirals the technique is stolen really from a site “spiralsbysteve”although his are much better than mine, I got the technique when he used to post stuff free on the net now he seems to charge for his e book on how to do them but they are not that hard once you get the hang of them
Starting some new projects soon will hopefully post some more stuff soon

Must admit before you showed us different I thought scroll sawing was all about 2D shapes and layers.

Like Andy I look at some of the things you have made and think amazing and how did he do that?

Sorry for delay in getting anything about the technique for these back on here, I was going to write something and dig out some pictures. But poor health intervened I’m afraid so I haven’t been able to do it just been sitting sifting through stuff on the web and found this site

Go to the woodwork section and then to the nautilus and there are good step by step photos here.

Hope this helps you all starting to feel a bit better so may get back in the workshop soon I hope so this sitting around is driving me nuts

That's a really good guide - thanks Martyn. I must say, yours look finer than his.

I hope you feel better soon. There seems to be a bug in circulation which is more more closely related to meningitis than it is to the common cold. I went down with it on Boxing Day and I'm nowhere near fully recovered; nor are many of my friends and acquaintances although we're getting better slowly.

I think I spend more time than him getting the glue faces flat and so they join properly, I havent yet got it perfect, but it makes a big difference in getting the curve even an on a straight axis (side to side)
Also the more care you take cutting the less sanding you have to do.

Im sorry I can get my photos sorted, but i didnt think I'd be trying to write how too's for these, and I havent felt well enough to make another one for the camera, (although I have the wood blanks ready for one), Its been an on going health prob since last summer, but actually seem to be getting better now hopefully.
