• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Spot for a cabin, delayed for 5 years, maybe this year.

I knew I would need a load of gravel in this area. After four days of heavy rain I have scraped back the muck in the low spot, not surprised with al the vehicle traffic.

Sorry, Duke, I've been away a lot and so not commented.........but this is looking great. Well done.

It’ll be lovely and toasty in there with that insulation and a wood burner, what - if anything are you going to panel out the inside with Scott?
I have been thinking what to do for the inside walls for a while now and have decided to use 1/4" OSB. Which I will prime and go over it with a rough/ish plaster, think a pleasant looking scratch coat. I have done this plaster finish in our home.
The gable ends will remain just the raw rough sawn pine.
The beams, posts etc. will be the dark brown colour.
The ceiling may be a dressed Pine or rough sawn.

It's going be a great cabin!
We have been down to the cabin with the dogs often, I go down first to start the fire then the rest follow.
Of course it gets so hot inside, then windows are opened to let the heat out.
I have a week off before heading to Toronto for work and hopefully will work on the cabin for most of the time.

Imagine yourself sitting there next summer!
I do often, my goal is to have an overnight stay this week. Which could be a disaster sleep wise as the dogs will be going nuts due to the wildlife sounds.

Yep, I feel your pain. Our dog does the same. Not as bad as her brother used to, but still bad enough to keep me from my sleep. Enjoy your stay later this week.

I like the raw look of the OSB. Thinking I might just use varathane and skip the plaster finish or use a coloured shellac by Zinser ?1000015509.jpg

Quite agree, trouble is that the “good” side always has a big black load of printing up and down it, how have you managed that Scott, looks very good btw.

All osb from 7/16" thickness and greater has the dark lines at 16" on centre on one side and the manufacturers stamp on the other. But with the 1/4" there are no markings at all, this is why I decided to go with 1/4".
I used ring nails to fasten the board to the walls.

Now I didn’t know that, brilliant thanks!

Time to get some colour on the walls. Cabin temp was 0 c this morning, fire is going within a half hour it will be 10 c.1000015511.jpg1000015513.jpg

Walls have one coat of paint. Will do another coat in the Spring. Needed to put up curtains or my wife won't spend the night in the cabin.
