• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Today I was washing some dishes, put my hand in the WU bowl and received the most astronomical pain in my hand. I said a string of expletives. It was a wasp, or a hornet or something. Bigger than your wimpish UK wasp, this was over an inch long. God, it hurt.

So vinegar, followed by something in a tube that had "insect" written on it, folowed by a bag a frozen peas with my hand in the air.

After an hour of this it was stil throbbing. I don't think I've had so much pain since I had kidney stones. At least this wasn't in the William area..

SWMBO took me to the Pharmacie, where the young Preparatrice was well informed and told me exactly what to do

1 Vinegar, done. (Vinegar for Wasp, Bicarbonate for Bee)

2. Insect bite cream, I'd already done that. Good.

3 Antihistamine and hydrocortisone cream. Yes please.

The swelling is going down and I can hold things in my hand again now, but I really don't want to experience this again. Just agony. It's still painful 9 hours later.

I had one sting my thumb knuckle a few years back, yes it hurts, brandy helps ;)

Most likely a hornet at that size. Worth having a good look around the area for a nest which by now could be football size or larger often hard to see when the trees are in leaf we often don’t spot the nests until autumn.
Must be reported if they are of the Asian variety local Mairie will help you find a removal specialist if the nest is on your property and they will inform the landowner if you spot a nest elsewhere.
 
I sympathise Steve, as you know I got a lot of wasp stings last week, thank goodness they weren’t what you got!
Two of my stings caused a really itchy red raised area and according to she who knows everything the reason I was really not myself was my body getting rid of the venom, so, sorry but you may have some side effects over the next couple of days.
Sounds like it’s been really painful 😣
 
I was standing in a hot border post somewhere in the Sahara, many years ago, when a big insect somewhere between the size of a crow and a helicopter flew into the room and buzzed slowly (and loudly) around. It's sting was an inch long, and dangled menacingly behind it. The locals didn't bat an eyelid, but us Brits shuffled away from it wherever it flew. The passport guy told us that it was a coming-of-age test for young men to grab one, and hold it in their fist. He said most people can use their hand again within a week.
