• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

As always with me, I finish something and THEN decide I should have taken pictures :eusa-doh:
This is the "hall table" which is actually a bedroom piece for a fairly tight room although the bed isnt normally pushed up against it like the pic shows.
The mirror frame is from the same oak. I made that first and had no issues at all with the wood.
The close up is the drawer front, with the flaked area roughly centre.
It would not pass muster to a customer, but as this is a spare bedroom only used a half dozen weeks a year it will do fine.
I always buy de waxed blonde shellac, but this oak has come out noticeably browner than other oak furniture I've made.

That's nice Bob. You seem to have solved your problems pretty neatly. It's a new-to-me problem. I've bought tons of oak over the years, including lots of quarter sawn with medullary rays, and never had anything like that happen.

Thanks Mike, it still amazes me that I can make something from wood that is acceptable indoors considering my complete uselessness with all hand tools :lol:

I've caught up on your desk making thread, I would love to make something like that with loads of mouldings, which I can actually do with the router table, but there is nowhere in our house that style would fit, and nobody in their right minds would pay me for my work. :eusa-hand:

Did you ever get to Cyprus? I remember there was a chance a few years ago.
 
Very nice Bob. Pleased you got over your problem with the lifting surface. I had something similar but on an outside table so not so much of a problem.
 
I'm annoyed over the one on the drawer panel. Although it does not show much to the eye, touching the wood as in dusting it is very obvious. I managed to cut around the others, except I got a scare when I fitted the top on as suddenly there was a big blister dead centre.... untii realised I had the top upside down :shock: :lol: When I fitted it the right way up the surface was good. 8-)

Not yet. It's a plan, still, but "events, dear boy, events" have got in the way.
