• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

If there is power to the tube but the new tubes are not lighting is this a faulty ballast issue?. There are no starters on the fitting.

In my experience, the connections at the ends are often dodgy. Try just slightly twisting the tube while it's switched on, not so far as to release it so it falls down, just a little, to find a better connection. The tube won't be too hot to handle.

Are the cathodes heating? (are the ends hot)

Earth path near the lamp is required usually for T5. Try stroking the lamp with your hands - ends towards the middle. if it lights you have an earth problem.

No heat at cathodes means lamps not fitted properly or failed ballast. Could be other things of course like a wire not connecting somewhere.

Tried wriggling tapping etc no joy.
Tubes not hot and tried stroking again nothing.

It is a twin fitting. All four connections are live.

Will see if we can find a ballast locally. Thanks.

Not mine BTW. at my brother’s in UK.

Before blaming the ballast, do a quick check on the tube(s).

There should be continuity between each pair of pins on the tube.

Note that it is quite common with modern ballasts for both tubes not to light when only one might be at fault.

Thanks, we have just had the tubes tested both OK. Too late to find an electrical store open so the ballast will have to wait until Monday.

Unlikely but they are the right tubes? there are 2 wattages per size and the wrong one probably will not light up. High wattage version are harder to find hence unlikely.
