• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Do you remember Michael Miles and Monica? or are you a child and only know Des Oconnor. Or a mere toddler and havent the faintest idea what I'm babbling about?
My local purveyor of fine vodka does entertainment nights, and has decided to subject his customers to this game. (I seem to be in the minority when I shudder at "taking part" in such things).
Anyway, I dont object to taking his money, so I've built him this set of boxes.
Still in the raw, awaiting painting, locks, and numbers.
12 boxes 6" square, with a "star prize" foot square box on top.

Its crude, but its a stage prop, not an heirloom, so 13 mm ply doors on piano hinge. Main frame of soft wood. With a one piece melamine back plate.
Have to admit, I did it the hard way. If I was paid enough to do another it would be all melamine panels screwed, not soft wood and filler and joints and glue and screws etc. etc.

Its gone to paint now ('er indoors does paint), I'll post another pic when its ready for delivery.
 
Black and white, two channels (three if you were near the border), Hughie Green - was HE not the one with Monica ("Double your money")? Michael Miles, Eamonn Andrews, Emergency Ward 10, Dixon of Dock Green, Cliff Michelmore, Richard Baker...
 
Hughie green was the other show Double your money. THREE channels? ONE when I first watched. :lol:
 
I've had to google my memory :shock:
ITV started in 55, I first saw TV at my Nan's house. I was young, but if I can remember that, then itv was operating.
But BBC2 didnt start till 64.

I'm probably the only person who remembers this, but there was some sort of competition to come up with a useful approximation to pi back then, and some bright spark proposed 1964/625, in tribute to BBC2.
 
rather glad I missed all that £arp...playing in the streets...NW London..

We had our first TV in 66, rented form Radio Rentals. Remember them?

Mother was taken ill and was in hospital during the first half of the world cup so of course Dad was keen to visit and watch the matches on the TV in the ward. When she came home he had to get his own set to continue watching. I was too young to remember. :eusa-whistle:
 
My dad was the reserve linesman (today he would be called forth official) at one match, I spent the whole time hoping the ref would fall over and break his leg. :D
 
I only remember she was tiny.

I've just googled her;
4 ft 9"
She seemed to have lost her way after the Tv work dried up, and she committed suicide by a drugs overdose in '94, aged only 45. Very sad.
My boxes have their stage debut tonight, I'm in the audience purely by chance as a birthday party member, I'm going to keep my head down. :lol:

Hughie Green, "I mean that most sincerely folks", probably the most insincere person on television! I had to make a bank of about 20 boxes like this once for post, and I was sick and I tired of the job by the time I’d finished it, looking good though, enjoy tonight.
 
Right era, wrong show.
Hughie Green (Canadian) hosted Double your Money, and yes, even as a young child he made my skin crawl.
Michael Miles (New Zealander) hosted Take Your Pick.

My boxes worked last night (I was dreading a stuck lock), but the actual show was a non event. A combination of football and high temperatures reduced the audience to barely 40 people (including the 11 of our party :shock: ).
Would you believe my missus raffle ticket won her the right to open the first box? :oops:
Luckily she won a very insignificant prize, other wise I would have had to make them draw again. :eusa-whistle:
