• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

what material should i buy to make a template out off. It will need to be 2440x 1220mm. Its for the side of a square drop, a (type of teardrop).
So i want to use it to mark out windows and doors etc.

I bought some thin cheap hardboard, but it was too thin, too floppy, and fluffed up when cut. I suggest 6mm MDF, maybe 9mm.

Always worth checking out Wickes sheet department for a damaged sheet of whatever you decide upon.
Grab hold of a member of staff and ask for a discount.
I have never had a refusal to reduce the price, often substantially.
Cheers, Andy

Last week I went to a place called EcoDepot. It's a discount place that sells everything from old rusty tins of paint, short-date foods like biscuits and beer (some of it OOD), household stuff - you get the picture.
Out the back there is a sort of timber yard, nothing fancy, some laths and 4x2s etc. But there was a rack with some 9mm phenolic ply or maybe something similar. But it is hard and flat and smooth. I've bought it to make some new throat plates for my TS, but it would make excellent Template material.
There were no full sheets, unfortunately (here, sheet goods are 2.5m x 1.25m).
The piece I bought is about a metre square and cost €10, which I thought was a bargain. I might go back and get some more.

Moisture resistant MDF every time for me when making a template, gives a crisp edge when cut which is ideal for running bearings & guide rings against.
If you know of anyone locally who CNC’s MDF commercially they are usually very happy if you take away their off cuts, that’s how I get all my template & false fence MR MDF
