Every year I tend to treat myself out of my Christmas bonus to a tool that I don't strictly need.
This year the candidates are:
a. Clifton No 6. Definitely don't need it as I have a 5 1/2 and a low angle jointer. However, it would get used. A big part of the appeal is that Clifton planes are such an aesthetic pleasure and have weight for when it's needed (I have a Clifton 4 1/2 smoother).
b. A Veritas 112 Scraper Plane. I do use scrapers a bit but TBH not enough to justify this. OTH it does look like the most wonderful technical toy and, should its presence be necessary on occasion, it would be there.
c. A Bad Axe hybrid tenon saw (a.k.a. Jack Saw). I'm least sure about this one and I don't want to start building up a massive collection of saws but I did try a Bad Axe in a shop and it certainly felt like high quality. I definitely can't afford a Skelton - which would be a dream - so is this worth a go?
Any thoughts or experience of any of the above?
And should you be contemplating a bit of self-indulgence, what tools would you want?
