• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

The things you see on holiday ……

We’re in the middle of the NC500 and decided to head towards mainland UK’s most northerly point (Dunnet Head not Groaty O’Johns!).

On the way there we passed a sign for some wooden stuff and I said to the wife ‘must stop on the way back’.

We did, and what a wonderful place it was. A very nice old gentleman who delighted in showing me his collection of slabbed timber (all local). Most impressive was this:

Apparently 12 foot between centres, a real beast. His ‘pillar drill’ was humongous and really defied the name. Unfortunately no photo.

A very talented man with a wide range of ‘stuff’ to sell in his shop.

Impressive!

I believe another member was up that way recently...

Lovely guy is Keith, going through some pretty major health problems. I tried to find a buyer for his lathe but even with a fantastic price the distance put people off. Personally I'd just hire a luton and go and get it.

I would pay to see you put that in a Luton, Mucker. 😎 Even one with a lifting tailgate....🫣

Given a healthy 6-tonner with an integral crane (think Hydrauliska Industri AB) I reckon it might just be feasible.

Sam.

Hold my beer;)
This is me unloading the bed, outrigger, tailstock, carriage, banjo out of my vw transporter after going to collect it. It was too long for a courier. I did get the headstock delivered by pallet courier. Did it alone with a engine hoist and pump truck.
The RU isnt that heavy, probably less than 2.5t

Oh.

My.

Gawd.

Where's that gif from Wayne's World? "We are not worthy!"

I take my hat off to you. In a Transporter.......speechless.

Sam.
I took the passenger seat out and the bed fit snugly into the footwell and I could close the boot with a couple of inches to spare. The lathe was in a scrap yard.

Yes he really is. We spent far longer there than intended just chatting with him. He recently lost his wife and just wanted to talk, so we listened.
