• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

A quick cabinet to tidy up my sons mess before Christmas.

Birch ply, made using track saw and domino, think only hand tools used were a square and a hammer :oops:

The gas strut and elevating bracket - is that something you can just buy somewhere or home made? Might have a use for that coming up...
 
Nice practical piece of furniture, but whoa.....that panelling is gorgeous! Is it the full height of the room?

Yes full height but afraid it's not proper panelling just beads stuck to the wall, actually looks really effective though with the coving painted the same colour. Got to put some pictures up on the walls yet.

I did proper panelling in the entrance hall but only half height. I managed to get the plasterer to join in the fun with traditional corner beads to match. It's all in the detail 8-)

Nice cabinet, that coving and plaster detail look great as well. Looks like you’ve done loads of good work on the house.
 
I don't understand gaming but everything about that unit looks well thought out and executed. Even the castors appear to be “hidden”.
 
I really like the plaster corner bead. That looks as though it was fully formed in plaster. There was another traditional approach which was a wooden corner bead which was partially over-plastered, revealing just the bead in wood.

Don't be too negative about your method of forming panels, either. That's been done for centuries, so your approach is completely authentic. I'd like to see your shutters folding back into the window reveals, though, and it looks like they don't quite do that. Come, chop chop........you can have them sorted for christmas! :)
 
Nice work Doug, I do love a bit of paneling.

When I lived in UK I did a few corner bead plaster jobs, I did a semi elliptical arch in my brother's gaff in 20mm pvc pipe, thankfully the plaster was old school and made a super job of it.

If you mean the panels on the unit they are not lipped, it's just Birch ply with the bare edges on show. I gave it a thin coat of stain before I varnished it to take the newness off but wish I hadn't bothered. I used a very weak mix with Van Dyck stain, looked fine on the test piece but a bit orange on the finished piece :|

MikeG, unfortunately no the shutters don't fold back in to the reveal, the shutters were made long before I considered the panelling, if I was starting from scratch again it would be a different story. I have spent years doing the house and now just want to start living in it rather then it just being a constant ongoing project.
