• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I need to ventilate a “land locked room” ie no windows 1.5m x 2.5m x by normal modern room height. There is a loft above. Air conditioning??

I have a ceiling void mounted air circulation device for our cellar. Similar to what Mike likes but without the heat exchanging element, so it just sucks stale air out of the room and pumps fresh air in, on a timer.

I can find the make and model if you like? It will be too large for your need but memory suggests they do all shapes and sizes.

What is the room? I assume it is an en suite or a WC, given the size.

Air conditioning isn't a ventilation system. It's way more, and if you don't need additional heating or cooling for the room, then it's pointless. You need something to simply move the air around, in or out, and that might be as simple as a fan and some ducting.

I'm a great fan (no pun intended) of the Icon range of fans. Stylish. They have a built-in shutter that automatically closes at the end of the 'suck' cycle. A lot of different control modules ranging from a simple pullcord module to a motion sensor, time delay, humidity control module.

Cut a hole in the ceiling then fit the fan. Connect it to some ducting...a simply flexible ducting such as that used with a tumble dryer (Screwfix have it) and exit through a grille cut into your soffit.

If there's likely to be a lot of humidity then I'd be tempted to replace the flexible stuff with a fixed pipe slightly angled downwards so that any condensation runs down and out of the grille.

It’s a study containing a very powerful PC, monitor etc.

I know from my PC how warm they can get, as we never have any heating on in our study.

So it’s main function would be for cooling.

I would agree with Roger's post, but just add that there doesn't seem to be any need to extract to outside. Why not extract to another room which could do with the additional heat? That way there would be a much reduced temperature gradient, and thus less danger of condensation......but most importantly, the useful additional heat isn't simply wasted.
