• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Been meaning to make a small vice stop for those odd jobs to save some of the set up time. I used some offcuts of ali from the rounds I cut up for the Farm Boy I am making. I had a spare day as waiting for some material for the farm boy so knocked up this little stop to clamp to the vice.

Looks very good to me; I use my (bought) one all the time so I'm sure you'll find it invaluable.

Is that one of these vices? It looks the same as mine, hence the curiosity.

I’ve never seen the advantage of that type of stop?
There are lots of fancy ones around but I ended up making something similar to this one. You can use it on jobs of almost any thickness and it doesn’t get in the way of the workpiece or the cutter.

No it is THIS one

I also have a home made one similar to yours, which I find useful for when the part overhangs the vice. I do need to modify mine at some point as I have to use an allen key to adjust it

I made one that works a bit like that (although it attaches to the table rather than the side of the vice). However, the one that clamps on the jaws is just so quick to attach (drop it on the jaw, quarter turn of the screw, done) that it gets used much more often. Yes, it can get in the way of some operations, but it's low-enough profile that it's extremely rare that it causes any problems.

Ah yes, I'd seen those when they were released (after I'd already bought mine). They look good and are probably easier to attach to a small mill than the one I've got (I had to drill a couple of extra holes in the base).

In case you're interested, I made a very small and simple modification to my vice - a swarf blocker. It's just a bit of acetal with a couple of countersunk holes drilled in it:

I like the idea of the vice infill to stop the swarf. I am thinking of making some toe clamps for mine as the ones I am using are from a hold down kit of clamps and a little bulky

Toe clamps sounds like a good option for that vice. You can just about see the mounting method for my vice in this photo: the screw hole at the back was added by me so that it's held in a more balanced way on the table - using the outer two t-slots rather than just one outer t-slot. If the table were bigger I'd just use the existing hole in a central t-slot, but my mill's too small for that.
