• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Soooooo, I decided to try beat the rush of Black days and the Xmas crowds and get a start on some stuff that was requested.

A couple of small faces to hang up on a tree. The noses still need painting.

Then onto some reindeer.
These are some Oregon(?) pine, certainly not SA-Crap-Pine.

I am having great difficulty sawing 45mm thick Beech. Broken a couple of #12 blades.

I have now also tried some MDF. Very fluffy and the thin horns break off. They will get some sealing with Gorilla glue.
 
Really nice, Phil. I'm hoping to cut some Christmassy things over the next few days too.

My small Hegner - the tension spring keeps on jumping out and messes up the cutting.
Not sure why. Have you had any issues with your Hegner?

My grandkids dont need toy boxes. They just use all available floor space! :lol:

I might do some candle holders next year depending on what scrap is lying around.

Mine might have seized up, it's so long since I used it! Whenever I've had those sorts of problems in the past I've simply tightened down the big black screw (technical term) on the tension rod which has always resolved the issue for me. I insert a new blade and tighten the screw until there's only 1mm or so sideways movement when a finger is pressed against the blade.
 
Gill, just take the arms off, clean off any gunge, oil shaft and screw back on and it should be ok.

I might need to replace the spring.
The tension feels fine while the spring is still in.

I use the small Hegner for cutting thickness up to 20mm.

Love the compound cuts :) .

Sadly, the weather has been against me venturing into the garage to resurrect my scrollsaw. It's bl00dy freezing in there!
 
Looks like it will be cooler today at 35c
My study is already 29c

No cutting this afternoon as we are having blackout (loadshedding) from 15:00 to about 17:00
