• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Your favourite listenings......

Some of you discerning chaps may find this rather good

Something i’d never have even looked at but , works both aurally and visually , for some reason brought the early “Stranglers” to mind , maybe the peaches reference. Top musical post .

Artiglio, to host a link and show a video just right click and highlight the youtube 'menubar' so it all goes blue.
Then right click and copy all the text after the = sign. All the stuff in red below.

this one is really aimed at Chris
a fantastic cover of Richard Thompsons 1952 Vincent Black Lightning

A very very talented person who I'm now on the look out for (written by someone who's been trying and failing to learn this on and off for the past 5 years)

 Wow.
I'm a listener, no musician but Christ on a Bike that lass can play the guitar. I'm off to search her up. Thanks for sharing. :eusa-clap:

Just remembered this Novocaine. It lacks the raw edge of experience but these two young lads are so good it makes me angry...

Edit:
Also.

You’re so right Chris, particularly liked the banjo playing every note is so clear. Not being into motorbikes, I had heard of Vincents obviously but this was a bit of a revelation, that is going some in 1950 something or other. Ian

The just don't make navies the way they used to

[youtubessl]ugpTBrhWDss[/youtubessl]
I can't stop listening to this a right ear worm and Derina's voice is absolutely perfect for this song. I do think if they did a tongue in cheek recruiting ad using this, we would have a much bigger navy.

Wiki on Ederlezi:
"Ederlezi" is a popular traditional folk song of the Romani minority in the Balkans.

The song got its name from Ederlezi, which is a Spring festival,[1] celebrating the return of springtime especially by Romani people in the Balkans, and elsewhere around the world. Ederlezi is the Romani name for the Serbian Feast of Saint George. It is celebrated on 6 May [O.S. 23 April] (occurring approximately 40 days after the spring equinox).[2] Mainly by Orthodox Serbs. The various Balkan spellings (Herdeljez, Erdelezi) are variants of the Turkish Hıdırellez, a holiday signaling the beginning of spring, occurring on the same day.

Turn this one up. Have a couple of glasses of good red. ;) Spring is coming!

A completely separate vocal tradition and one a little closer to home. :obscene-drinkingcheers: Portsmouth Folk Festival 2010. David Coffin is an American who specialises in early maritime music like shanties. What a voice. What a lovely thing to hear so many voices in harmony as well.

Lastly some Irish folk music. ;) Have a look at this one. :D

And

Then

Encore une fois (sash)
Blondie
Ozzy and Sabbath ( well worth a listen)
Bat for Lashes

Stereo and vinyl ( it just sounds nicer) currently in storage and missed.
Seeing your post reminds me of seeing Live playing live somewhere in London, about the time that lighting crashes was new, great gig!

One of my favourite pieces on the same vibe.....a must for earphones!

Thanks Jonathon. Never heard of Manchester Orchestra. Brilliant.
The REM /Neil Young I've seen before. I think it's outstanding too.

When I was 13 ish my classmate Fat Alex who was 13 going on 23 and came from a proper issues family played me Green on his walkman and blew my tiny 13 year old mind. You are the everything and Hairshirt in are in my soul song list even now. :eusa-pray: I can still recall the clarity and brilliance of my young life when I play these songs when you thought every song was written for you. Even now I can get whiff of the sheer sense of wonder I felt at that age. Thankyou Michael Stipe. Eternal respect.

Also. patting my self on the shoulder. F**k me I had good taste in music at 13! Boom! :text-bravo:

Thank you Michael Stipe. Thank you Fat Alex.

As Chris101 seems - like me - to enjoy a musical tour of the world, can I suggest a Bulgarian trip:

I've clicked on that Tony and I like the first few notes. I struggle with repetition with work and the drive into London in particular. It drives me crazy. To distraction. The routine is soul destroying for me and I can only do the world service for so long. Then the shipping forcast starts... BBC 6live, I can't put up with the DJ at that time although he seems like a nice guy and he plays some good music sometimes. What else? Capital? Absolute? Not for me. KIss lmao?!?! So it's music off youtube or spotify. Podcasts are a thing I'm discovering. You're Dead to me, historian v's comedian is great but content is limited compared to work journeys. Just listening to the one on the Borgias. Any one have any podcasts they swear by?
I'll be saving this album to listen to on the way to work tomorrow. Happy days. :D Thanks Tony.

Dave I've seen that Brothers Moving one before and I do like that I have to say. :) The first vid you posted is modern and fair play. I like it for what it says. I get the spirit of it.
A more gentle take on 'Irishness' maybe.

Not a fan personally of the ladies trying hard to be hawt while playing the pipes but that's just me of course. :eusa-whistle:

Just class.

As an antidote to the chordless drill. From a recent livestream to mark their new album, Amy Lee of Evanescence sings of the death of her brother, and crisis of religious faith, all in one beautiful song.

:text-+1: Yes, Patricia is superb. Saw her as a young teenage soprano singing Ennio Morricone. She's getting even better. She may have perfect pitch. Live she gave me goosebumps and few singers do that.

For the classically inclined, and Lisa Gerrard fans, and especially people like me who like melancholic music:

This is just the 3rd movement but the whole album is on there; put away anything sharp enough to slit your wrists with first though.

My piano teacher told me that if I was going to play JS Bach's pieces (I have to for my next exam :? ) I should check out the late Glenn Gould's technique. I must admit I'd never heard of him before but boy, what an eye-opener!

feel the need to post this, a rather nice cover with a bit of flare.
