• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Best way to clean this. Lantern. Hopes dashed

Think you are looking at it the way we do when we have made something out of wood. We know the faults and think it could be better - everyone else thinks it is amazing! Well done.

    Chairs - Done!

If your making involves templates I'd say it is worth persevering with the CAD as it can give you full size prints from which you can make templates. I just went to a furniture store and sat in all the dining chairs until I found the most comfortable one. Then I asked if I could take one home...

Best way to clean this. Lantern. Hopes dashed

A suggestion for the light source - battery powered led string lights. Copper wire with miniature lights every 10cm along its length. Much brighter than those led tea light things and running from 2 AA batteries long lasting. You can bunch the wire up to make a single large light source and...

    Happy New Year

Says video blocked due to copyright in my country Phil so not working here. Happy new year anyway and after recent news I'd like to think things can only get better too.

Food from your early years as an adult or child?

Not much I remember of childhood meals. I do remember Mum making stews and me not liking it much - lots of pearl barley and butter beans etc. I'd probably like it now. Once in a blue moon my Dad would make his version of a stew and I did like that. Skinless sausages cooked in a mixture of tinned...

    Bob '9fingers' Minchin

Oh man what terrible news! Hard to find words that haven't already been said - I agree with them all. He was truly one of the good guys. I've taken a pause from posting recently but I have been reading regularly. Need to get my woodworking motivation back. News like this doesn't help. RIP Bob

Fridge modification to store paint etc.

Get a temperature controller from Amazon or similar - search STC 1000. It does cooling or heating and has a hysteresis setting so you can say have it turn off at 10C but not come back on until it drops to 4C or whatever you want. Instructions will be confusing but plenty of online help if you...

Apple Mac survival kit - but some points relevant to PC's maybe

I swear by 'Veeam Agent Free' for backup. They have a Mac version free too. It will back up the entire computer to whatever you have network drive or USB plug in drive. It has you create recovery boot media (USB stick or CD/DVD) so you can start a computer with no OS. I use it when replacing a...

Excellent :) I did mention Avast in post 106 but not with confidence. Those actions required are probably updates and a scan for one and backup for the account.

    Saying goodbye is hard

Been there done that earlier this year with our near identical tabby Izzy. Still feels wrong leaving the front door open as she never went street side. She's not the one on the left ;)

Is it exactly the same in a firefox private window? (right click your bookmark and select open in new private window) Also it looks like a very zoomed in youtube page (the basic looking link shows it isn't) - what happens if you zoom out? (Hold ctrl then mousewheel or + and - keys) Did we ever...

If you haven't told your PC to disconnect from wifi it will still be using it even with an ethernet cable plugged in.. Oh and it will see the cable as a new network and may need telling it is a 'safe' home network.

If I replace the drive in a laptop or PC for something larger I always use my regular backup to restore onto the new drive. Worked every time... so far.

True. Maybe almost blocking :) I like the new user creation idea. worth a try.

That video of mine playing fine rules out router restrictions. All I'm left with is something blocking your access to those 2 sites. That means anti virus software or firewall... or malware. You've done malware scans so probably not that. try turning off your anti virus software and try youtube.

Not sure it will tell us anything but try playing the file you downloaded directly from my webspace. <file now deleted> It's the same one but not in a zip file. Your download speed will mean it will buffer a bit (file is big for the amount of time it plays) but should then play. The task...

If you are into testing things then checking the memory would be a good idea as a bad stick might cause such problems. memtest86 is usually recommended - can take a couple of hours.

That was the bit about going to options in task manager and clicking 'always on top' At the head of every column is a percentage number that shows how much is being used of CPU, Memory, disc, network and graphics. Just look if any are really high.

Thinking... what other video sites have you tried? Does tiktok play ok? You tube will punish anyone it detects using an ad blocker by throttling the connection to very slow so you get buffering. You could be on a 'blacklist' if you got a warning about adblockers and ignored it. I doubt removing...

Have you had task manager open while trying to stream video? It might give a clue as to what is happening. Right click the task bar and choose task manager or open it other ways. You may have to drag the window wider to see all the columns on the processes tab. You can sort the list of...
