• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

A friend asked me if I recognised this trademark from a drawknife? I've done a bit of digging but to no avail. Some sort of sea creature within F F Cheers, Andy

Industrial woodworking the SINGER SEWING MACHINE way.

I finally got around to watching this film and cannot remember when or where I saved it from. Maybe it was here? It's quiet 😉 long so maybe you want to start at 51.18 for the in depth woodworking action. To be honest watching the whole lot is worthy if only to witness what must have been a mind...

    Australian furniture timbers.

I've heard from woodworkers who describe working with Australian timbers as "woodworking with metal". Siggy Chaloupka, apart from being a thoroughly nice bloke, has an extensive knowledge of the timbers available to furniture makers in Australia. He has kindly offered to impart this knowledge on...

    Frozen shoulder.

So, on top of my recent eye drama it has been diagnosed that I have onset of a frozen left shoulder which being right handed has taken me about 3 months to have arrived at that doctors/physio appointment. I was quite disappointed at the lack of a cause with the only issue he could correlate it...

Praise where praise is due Leicester Royal Infirmary.

A few times in recent years I've been referred to LRI for problems, all, thankfully, with good positive outcomes. Once again yesterday and today. Sunday evening I lost central focal vision when looking at things which lasted for about 20-30 minutes with a small mosaic in that area through both...

Great footage related to wartime trains.

Bit of a long one this (only half way through myself) but some very well presented interesting films. Very impressive to see the ability to get anything sorted out without much of a fuss. Cheers, Andy

The pattern makers, the infill plane and the foundry workers

I was pleasantly surprised to spot an infill plane being used on some old film posted by John Kent Joiner the other day. I gave him a shout to ask where he found the footage and this is it, quite an insight into a foundry and its workers. Cheers, Andy

Brass framed "Ultimatum" brace by Atkinson Brothers

Six years of research around the world has gone into getting this very rare Atkinson Brothers brass framed brace back to what, from the known examples we have studied, is how we believe it should be. The frame, chuck and neck are in great condition but the original Ebony head had been replaced...

Any advice on mobile phone battery replacement?

I have a quite good (I believe) Huawei VIE L29 that I found great to use and as usual the battery gave up the ghost about 2 years ago. My replacement, but nowhere as good, phone is now reaching the same point. I have seen an "official" postal Huawei battery replacement service advertised and for...

Companion/ Hobbies treadle lathe, fret saw and circular saw

Well, it's been a while but whilst stumbling around some old farm buildings at the weekend I happened upon a arbor and saw blade assembly. Immediately I assumed it was part of the missing circular saw attachment for my treadle lathe. Delving deeper into the box this was confirmed as I found...
