• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Please let this not be a monarchy debate but if you are flying a flag today did you also have to make a 6m flagpole from 2 tent poles, 3 bamboo canes 1 x rebar, 3m masking tape, 2m duct tape and some cable ties. :)

On my daily one mile walk around the village this morning I noticed that very few houses were displaying their support for the coronation in the way of decorations. Perhaps I'm living in a hot-bed of republicanism!!

Not-a-one hereabouts...... it's a bit of a hazardous sport.

But, I do try to spot how many are upside down on the telly.

Love it, Andy. Heath Robinson would bow down in honour.

Village party hereabouts. Bunting has been flying for a couple of days now.

As ever, gobsmacked by the sheer organisation involved.

Each time the 6th of June comes around I send an quick note to the village mayor reminding him how the flag should be flown.

Tradition has it that the ensign flown in reverse at sea was a sign of a vessel in distress.........

............Not immediately noticeable (without looking) where the union flag is concerned, though.

Flags and bunting have been spreading across the village since last weekend, so we have two Union flags suspended from the top front windows to show willing. Given the rather lively breeze slapping them against the window panes a couple of days ago, I wouldn't fancy a Mk.1 AndyP flagpole to have survived.

Watched a bit of SkyNews while having coffee.

Did not see any of you showing up at the Abbey.
Invites lost in the post? Royal Mail?

:D

One thing the Brits can do is put on a good show.

It is also good to see well disciplined soldiers marching, not like this rag-tag bunch here.

I'm in the workshop. I don't do flags, ever.

There are a handful of flags displayed around here. No street parties or anything of that kind around here, though the weather forecast a week ago was rain, and sure enough it has rained since 9am and is still grey and drizzly in a rather British way.

Rather bizarrely we had a large silk union jack delivered to us yesterday that was apparently meant for someone else (unknown). I surmise that 99% of people don't know which way up it should go.

If 99% of people don't know, and there are only 2 ways it can hang, presumably 49.5% plus the 1% who do know display their flags correctly, putting them in the majority? :)

No flag here.

Not really interested, but good luck to everyone who enjoys this stuff.

Having lived for 60 years in the cloistered, inward-looking, intense little enclave of Ulster, I am under-whelmed, pronouncedly, by the apathy of my English neighbours, as evidenced by tthe severe drearth of "flegs, like...nerr buntin' neither".

No, I criticise not; just glad to be somewhere that the kerb-stones are NOT painted (alternately) red, white and blue, whether you like it or not. But, I am struck by the marked contrast with my local English High Street and the Newtownards Road "in full regalia"...

Loads of flags and bunting in our road and we had to go into Salisbury afterwards for an errand; there was an old fashioned street vendor with a cycle barrow giving away free ice creams outside M&S :eusa-dance:

SWIMBO and I watched the whole thing this morning and thoroughly enjoyed it; the pomp and spectacle was magnificent and the parade afterwards was breathtaking; all the armed services taking part (4000) stepped off at exactly the same time, which was mindboggling.

Big, big kudos though to Penny Mordaunt who was who did a really great job holding that massive Sword of State - Rob

I was trying to work out how the aircon could work on that first coach. Where was the unit ? At the back, I gues and batteries for power. But not a lot of space.

Went to work as per usual, apparently folks who work PAYE get Monday off as well, I'll be making wall paneling :)

Not for me, I went out and cut the grass, shush don't tell anyone or I might end up incerserated in the tower. ;)

Plenty of flags and bunting in the village and there's a "do" in the village hall car park tomorrow, I think the missus is going, I'll be watching the match.

I was there for the last one.
I lived in a London street of 50 houses best described as "coronation street".
Every house bought out their dining tables and chairs and filled the entire road end to end. (of course back then there were less than 10 cars among the 50 houses so loads of room). It was a nice sunny day.
I can still remember the fun and food, and I got a tin box with her face on the front.

This time I almost fell asleep watching. Could not believe that the archbishop of canterbury had to read his lines from cue cards held by a bloke standing next to him. Preparation, preparation, preparation.
Interesting to note that the Royal Navy marched in much better order than the Army!

We had flags out and family and friends round.

I barbecued in the afternoon under a parasol in the rain and we ate indoors. Shame about the weather.

No bunting on my house, but it cannot be seen from the street. I am however one of the organisers of the Village do in the community centre that the sun is shining on today. There is the odd flag and bunting display in the village.
I must admit to having cut the grass yesterday during the coronation as it was the first opportunity I had when it was not raining and when you have seen one you have seen them all. Oh hang on I did not see the previous one, we did not have a tele :D

He's 74 so it won't be 70 years until the next one. ;)

I'm the same age as him, and I suspect I'm a long way from being the oldest here, so not many of are likely to see the next.  8-)
Although I must admit, he looked older than I feel

All the best people are 74 :D

If Logan Smith is right we’ll only have to wait till 2026 to see the next monarch, so keep on taking the sanatagen it’s only 3 years

Where I used to live there were very few Union Flags but lots and lots of St George Crosses.
But Kev, at the end of the road, always had a Skull & Crossbones flying over his garage.

Who was it who said that patriotism was the last refuge of the scoundrel? Or something like that.

I have never understood "St. George" being the patron saint of England.
The bloke was Turkish!
W.T.F? :D 8-)

All I can say is 'Thank God' for a PVR and the ability to Fast Forward. We recorded the dross...sorry...concert, gave it an hour's start. Within 5 minutes, we'd reached the end of our hour buffer and were back in real time. Then switched off within seconds.

Dire.

Georgi was not just Turkish, but he never set foot in Britain, and probably didn't even know of our existence.

At what point do they wheel out Paul McCartney?

Katy Perry was spectacular. She looked amazing, can sing and owned the stage. To end it with Take That was laughable.
