• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Chaps, I'm just in, quite a monster of a day. I fitted the glass onsite, and I had a nightmare with the UV safety film on the glass, it marked and picked up adhesive so easily and after hours of messing with it I ripped it all out (the film), it's ridiculous anyway as the glass is 6mm...this meant I didn't get finished till 6pm, and the customer was now having a Christmas party (in the room) and I'm kinda in the way... They are delighted, but even though I brought the SLR camera all I got were two crummie mobile phone pics in a dimly lit room... I can share them but wouldn't you rather wait a week of so, so I can pop back and take some nice ones?

Installed a little PIR 'on/off' switch, front underneath/ soffit.... You can Toggle it with your slippers....I wonder how many times the cat triggers it [emoji23]

I have a PIR triggered cat scarer in the garden which has been very effective at reducing issues with the combination of surface laid feline crap and Flymo grass cutting. ( I wont expand on the details - use your imagination!)

I wonder if such a device could be adapted for your purpose Jim? :lol:

Brilliant, Jim. Wasted on that dull location, but it's really lovely. I hope it leads to a few more commissions..........but not if you propose taking a router to a pre-finished CNC-cut part ever again!

This is one of 4 or 5 pieces for this room... So more fun to come in the NY....I promise to behave with the router too, I'll make it a NY resolution. [emoji16]

As someone that used to manufacture lighting for a living the light spill around the doors bothers me but apart from that it looks fantastic.

Not been commenting but have been following every step. Thanks for posting.

The light spill is a very valid point that yourself and Bob have brought up - Thank you, it's good to point out the bits that bother us so we can develop - I appreciate the honesty.

I am about 50/50 in agreement on the 'Spill', as I quite like how it accents the door frames. It's worth noting that the photograph and post editing might have exaggerated the effect.

...but before this sounds like an excuse :lol: it was actually something I was concerned about quite early on (usually on one of many 3am thinking sessions!) though I wasn't really coming up with a simple (£££) alternative to leaving the spill - so I left it.

The alternatives I could see were:

- Door edge brush or stuck bubble seal. We'd still get some spill around the butt hinges breaks, better to have zero or 100% spill IMHO. This might still be an option, some fun routing though, I think MG needs a break :lol: !

- 'Planted' rebate/ stop. This would interfere with the glass shelves (12 KG supported at eight points around the perimeters) and would be visible, from the side windows. Keeping the interior uncluttered was important and has been quite a challenge (Leg fixings, shelf adjustment, etc.).

- 'Stuck' rebate. Perhaps the most ideal but also quite technical and involved (£££), bearing in mind the veneering and substrates.


One of the downsides or perhaps upsides (I don't know) to 'Bespoke one-offs', especially when unfamiliar process are involved, is there isn't really an opportunity (or budget) to Prototype, so there is a certain amount of 'flying by the seat of your pants' and various hurdles and changes in direction along the way...some perhaps still to come...I still don't really know how the 'Shou-sugi-ban' grilling will perform in the long run :?
The MKII will crack it, ideas most welcome :D

I'll ask the customer for an honest critique when I return to photo. They're quite straight talking so it'll be interesting to see what comes up. :eusa-whistle:

Yep, I've had ongoing issues with the Saab and the computer has been in and out of the repair shop too. PC now sorted and the Saab is almost there. I'm going to share the experience of dealing with an 'Arthur Daley' in a new thread soon. :P
