• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Maybe one for the cruciverbalists

Should have got that sooner. Disappointed.

Right, I've been practising on that other Wordle site I linked to earlier. It allows you to play an unlimited number of games.

Annoyingly, I lost two. Both were of the Watch, Match, Batch, Catch, Hatch, Latch, Patch variety, which amounts to sheer guesswork.

With my starter word, todays was a doddle. Got it in 2.

So close on the second guess!

I discovered this yesterday: https://worldle.teuteuf.fr

It's a nice puzzle (although you could easily cheat by looking at a map). Today's is very easy; yesterday's took me a few more guesses.

Yep I’ve been doing that one too. Today in one, yesterday in 5 after being 4000k out in one direction first guess then 4000k in the other direction second guess.

And yet I found myself in your previously mentioned multiple choice/guess world….

My worst attempt yet.

What's your starting word, Mark?

Well this really tee'd me off! Great first two lines, no mistakes, and I still failed with incorrect, but perfectly valid, guesses

I've thought of a strategy to deal with this if it ever happens again!

Haha! I'd already thought of that but dismissed it as only cheating myself! I think when there are more possibilities for the final letter than you have goes left, you need to sacrifice one go by creating a wrong word that contains as many of the remaining possibilities as you can shoehorn in. That might Identify the missing letter.

Ok . I have convinced myself that I am just too clever for this game and that I know too many rare and obscure words and ignore the simple ones. :)

Phew!
First time with no yellow letters at all and nothing in my first two guesses.

I've got a good pair of opening words. It seldom lets me down.

Confession time; I haven't quite managed to walk away. And I confess this because, to my intense irritation, I've had an Eric Morecambe moment - all the right letters, just not necessarily in the right order. :eusa-doh:

Rather enjoying the Worldle one.

Me too! Although I had a bit of a brain failure on countries of that bit of the world so it took me more guesses than it should have:

Eric Morecombe meets V.C.Andrews, without the floral input.

Great minds, Doc. ;)

My difficulty with Worldle are distances; I'm hopeless at judging them. Direction, no problem, but consistently over-shooting the target. Good for the brain though, and confirms me in my view that several terms spent studying the hybrid rice plants of the Ganges plain was as pointless a use of geography lessons as it felt like at the time.

Mike, cripes, that's a bit cryptic for a Sunday morning. I had to think hard.

So this game is why the other half has started to ask me "5 letters, 3rd one p with a possible r in it" I then inevitably give her a word after a few seconds thought and shes like "oh yeah". i thought she had started doing crosswords again. Yet when I'm actually looking at things like this game or crosswords, I can't actually do them.
