• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Road pricing is inevitable - which will drive up the value of low tech but polluting old cars, and the taxation imposed on city dwellers. .....

I'm not with you on this one. Surely they can set the pricing to be biased against old cars - regardless of tech level?

That could be another very hot potato though Roger, I believe they'll do that anyway but will have to limit it as it will adversely affect poorer society who can't afford newer cars. Politicians in the end are always working towards the next election.

My point regarding old cars is they do not come with built in tracking equipment. Retro fit is easily tampered with. As soon as road pricing appears, road price tax avoidance will be with us.

Ah...with you now. That would be a great IT contract to win ! But not to manage

Road pricing is already with us and hated, many main cities with the creep of LEZ / ULEZ, many bridges and tunnels and with the established toll roads in Europe there's a precedent.

Apparently they're desperately looking at everything, number plate recognition cameras but very expensive as they'd have to put them up everywhere or drivers would just use alternate routes, as they do now, GPS technology but the pushback of the government tracking you everywhere you go along with their dire security record would be massive, also mistakes are made and slow to resolve as we see already. Mileage checks on all cars from new via MOT stations at 12 or even 6 month intervals, yeah right that's foolproof isn't it. Black box technology as used currently by insurance companies and heaven knows what else. I can see the dates being pushed back for a variety of reasons.

I don’t see what that’s got to do with anything but it was only a matter of time before you chimed in with your usual negativity. ;)

Well, first of all, it's called putting a balanced perspective.

You, a balanced perspective, that will be the day. :text-lol:

Woodster, please do not emulate a certain Murrican bully-boy, in that, when you are losing (an argument) you resort to personal abuse. A rational, reasoned argument is the perogative of each and every member on here and all you are doing with your petulant mewlings is allowing us to see you for what you are.

Mods?? Time to step in?

I have thought long and hard about whether to intervene in this thread not wishing to inflame the situation nor to be seen as supporting one side or the other.

In any forum there will be differences of opinion and debate and it is important that we must all not let ourselves get upset when anyone challenges us. If we haven't got anything nice to say perhaps it is better to say nothing at all.

It is also important that we understand the difference between threads that seek help and information from forum members and those that merely post a link to a YouTube video on the basis that if it is popular on youtube it must be of interest here.

It has also been pointed out to me that details of Roger’s home address details were posted here, a public forum. This action for, I hope, obvious reasons was totally unacceptable and caused unnecessary distress and anxiety and may even be considered stalking and harassment.

Let this be the end of this matter. I have locked this thread and the fastest car thread and propose a self imposed moratorium on the subject of electric vehicles for a few months at least. Along with “how to sharpen” threads the subject appears to be a recipe for argument and discord.

Mark and the fellow mods set up The Woodhaven 2 after the original Woodhaven collapsed without trace. We will not let this otherwise friendly and happy place descend into the near bear pit atmosphere of forums elsewhere.
