that's what I like about them. they are complete trash and exceptionally unbelievable, it's complete escapism and I don't care, I enjoy it. I read space based stuff for the same reason.

Ah well Rob, if you don't like Reacher, then you won't like Josh Cullen! So, shall I cross you off my complimentary copies list, when mine is published? (I should be so lucky) :mrgreen:

It's a historical fact that salacious, bloodthirsty drivel makes money; gobs of it. That's why I try to write it... Meaningful fiction such as 'Catcher In The Rye', and 'To Kill A Mockingbird' don't do so well as we might think. I don't mind trash fiction as long as things are 'happening', and the plot at least gets me thinking. For the 'literary' stuff I prefer to wait for the film!

The first novel I ever read was 'Coral Island' by R.M. Ballantyne, followed by 'Pickwick Papers'. Can't recall the author of that one; :eusa-whistle: although I do recall the film was rather bloodthirsty in places, and Bill Sykes was a bit of a lad! :eusa-naughty:

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll have a look when it comes out. The other half has been watching the series “Taken” but I’m not over struck with it. Maybe this will be better.

My two-pennorth!

I think the book they are adapting for Prime is the first one; 'Killing Floor'. In which the lead character gets arrested in 'Eno's Diner'. Also in which Reacher sets out exact revenge for the murder of his elder brother.

Looking at the 'new' Reacher, presumably the casting people think that digging out swimming pools with a spade would give Reacher a physique like Arnie! Well it might help with the cardio vascular system, and keep off the fat, but that's about all.

I came across some more 'Reacher' footage. An audition sequence for the role. I don't know who the actor is, but he's way more believable in the role. Lee Child just describes Reacher as a tall, well built guy; no mention of a weight-trained physique! Therefore my choice would have been Thomas Jane when the first film was made.

I haven't finished the later books. They lack something the earlier ones had.

Novelty? There is only so many times the hero can save the day in a firefight/fist fight/knife fight; win the girl but move on as a loner; hitchhike into a small rural town in mid America that just happens to have a criminal enterprise at its heart; before one knows what is coming as you read the story......

I don't mind then as escapist novels, but I pick them up second hand from the book stall on our market and sell them back again after they are read - definitely not keepers but if you suspend disbelief for a while the are OK, a bit like watching Mission Impossible films!

That opens up a whole new series of Dickens’ mash ups. Sykes vs Alfred Jingle. Miss Havisham vs little Nell (my money’s on the old’un), but undoubtedly guaranteed a good death scene. Magwitch vs. Marley (well, one is dead already, so zombie action). Scrooge vs. Fagin – like Moneybox live with added dubious religious characterisations…

And Pip vs. Well, no, just kill the little squit.

I’m onto the film companies already.

Well..know we know. Cracking choice of actor. Perfect. First time in my life I am binge watching! Bloody good story too with a very clever twist.

I'd say they got it pretty much spot on and I have to admit they portrait Reacher perfectly. the fight scenes were good and not to excess (which makes a change) considering how far they could have taken it.

I admit to binge watching it all this weekend including 3 episodes on saturday morning when I couldn't sleep.

I like that it is following the book quite well too. Some changes as I remember it but not too much. Bosch sometimes had me wondering which book it was based on.

I know the ending from the book but still good to watch. 4 down 2 to go.

Reacher beds the girl half way through the story after she initially resisted his charms;
Reacher spots a tenuous link/clue/leap of logic that eludes everyone else;
Reacher has a stand-off with the bad guys, outnumbered at least 5 to 1 obviously;
Reacher fights the big bad boss after the bad guys, picking up his first injury in the story but nothing too life threatening;
Reacher disappears into the night after beating the big bad boss;
The FBI/cops/law enforcement officers of choice suddenly forget all about fingerprints, eyewitness descriptions and general normal law enforcement practice;
Reacher is free to rinse and repeat in the next small town a bus drops him off in which just happens to have a triad gang / cowboy drug smuggling ring / corrupt cop cabal going on in it

You can slip into the above narrative a description of a fist fight, a description of some weapons and possibly use of a sniper rifle if we haven't had one in the preceding book.......

Not that there is anything wrong with formulaic storytelling, but they do get a bit samey after a while :lol:

We’re part way through the series and it’s not bad. The best we’ve seen so far on Prime though was Bosch so we’re looking forward to the spin off with the same character/actor.

Georgia girl, pretty much spot on for me havnig spent a fair bit of time in the company of a number of them, they can go from quiet as a mouse to loud as a house in seconds, normally if there is a bucking bronco to ride. :lol:

I agree. Even if the next series (and I hope there is one) is on subscription plus I'll still watch it.

Only slight niggle and applies to many films where they set fire to petrol. Petrol goes up with a resounding low frequency kerrump. Those low frequencies are always missing which suggests HS&E have dictated something else other than petrol !
