• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Trimble Towers Workshop - Fitting out begins...

Just caught up with the thread Mark... Looking good [emoji3]

I considered having mine built but the quotes were near 60k!...and... I was supplying the cladding, windows and doors!

Self building has been fun but back breaking, so kudos to your Polish chaps work ethic ....looking forward to seeing more. [emoji106]

You got the roof on yet Mark, I'd have thought with team Poland on the job you'd be nearly finished by now ;)
 
Hello mate

Haha not quite yet. been a busy few weeks for me with work and personally and he's been finishing off a job at a mate of mine so been on and off it here. There's some progress but not massive and I've been too busy to sit down and write an update.

Here's where we are currently…

A couple of days after the last update I ordered the remainder of the materials to do the slab and Darek came round and met the delivery. 6 tons of MOT hung over the hedge and he cut the bags to drop it roughly into position then spread it, tamped, whackered then did the same with the sand…





I then went out for a bit with the kids and got back to find him having laid and taped the DPM, then laid and taped the 100mm Kingspan under the slab, then laid and taped a second DPM then laid the steel mesh. He left one end open for me to inspect when I got back but my phone died and was charging so sadly no photo's.



That was all done on the Thursday and I arranged for a concrete delivery for 9am Saturday morning which Darek came to meet while we went down to London for my nephew's birthday for the weekend. Got back covered in bruises after a whole Saturday playing paintball, to find this…



Which the wife enquired as to whether it was okay to walk on, the kids didn't bother checking…



And here it was on last Monday morning. Is actually a lot smoother than it looks so very pleased.



He's given me a list of materials for the next phase which I am ordering today and hopefully he will then be on this from later this week until finished, assume the weather lightens up a little so it's not too cold to lay bricks…

Mike has very kindly validated some questions on my steelwork for me and I've to go back to the structural engineer on a couple of things, then hopefully full steam ahead from later this week, or next week at the latest.

I was going to suggest keeping the surface as damp as you could for as long as you could (it aids the strength of the slab), but you live in the NW.......... :lol:
 
Andy - yep, we agree the plan, he implements it and calls me if there's any deviation as he know's I'm such a pain in the arris in having things done just the way I want. Works well.

Mike - It's rained daily since it went down! :lol:

Ideally yes I think so. Builder reckons he's finishing the other job this week then is on this until finished. Pressure on me now to sort my bits out so I'm not the bottleneck...

I honestly don't know but when I've had a look in daylight it very much looks just like where they have lifted the 7x2 (on edge) that they used to smooth it down, from the slab, to move it along.

I have had a close look and these areas are ever so slightly raised, and we're talking a couple of mil bump, and so show as white because they dried slightly quicker than the surrounding bits, at least that's the theory I've come up with…

Any other thoughts out there…?

Woohoo, by the time I get home from coaching my lads U7's team then going to the Theatre of Dreams (not so great dreams right now, but it's still my church) then my garden should be sporting a rising erection...

Theatre of Dreams seems very apt to me as surely dreaming is all you can do at Old Traffird at the moment :D

Would be nice to see a home victory to give my lot a chance to catch up.

It's a bit deceiving, but it looks like you have a good sized slab there chap. Very cool indeed. 8-)
 
Hey Pinch

Yeah decent size, bigger than lots, smaller than others.

Internal diameter is 30sqm with some good headroom inside due to steel ridge beams allowing me to not need any rafters or collar ties so in the larger area the ceiling will be vaulted right to the ridge and in the smaller area I will have rafters at or just above eaves height to allow good headroom but also give timber and crud storage.

I've slightly modified the window opening size because we're hopefully having our timber windows replaced soon so am planning on taking two of the windows still in good condition and recycling these into the workshop to save a little cash.

Headroom is always a good thing and wide entrance door(s) as shown in your drawings - proper job! I didn't realise your walls are going to be face brick - very nice! The ole Pols are certainly doing a good job for you!

I'm looking forward to seeing what comes out of the shop when all finito 8-)

They had the majority of the possession in the first half but never threatened. We absolutely hammered them in the second and deserved the win but sloppy defending and a great cross/header did for us. [emoji20]

Still, very positive in terms of team and individual performances so hopefully they can go on from that rather than backward as we have so far...

Who do you support Andy?

The Lilywhites (although you hardly ever here them called that these days) hence my wish for a home win from your lot. Still unbeaten in the league of course but no team ever won without winning. Maybe with the HuriKane back they will hammer the hammers.

I thought they were the Gunners? My nephew follows them otherwise I would not know that term.

Makes some sort of sense from the English use of the word @rsenal.

Anyway lets get back something interesting such as workshop building :lol:

I have to applaud you for working with the local yoofs but as for anyone frittering away time on watching sport, all comprehension fails me. :lol:

There are 5 clues I think in my post..
1) the name Lilywhites after their original home strip of, you guessed it, all white.
2) hoping for a home win at the threatre of dreams. Thats Old Trafford Bob, where Manchester United play. As Mark pointed out against the gooners or gunners if you use the queens english.
3). Only one time unbeaten in the league.
4) HuriKane or Harry Kane as his mother calls him, only 2nd game back after injury. Top notch striker and winner of last season golden boot, awarded to the premier league's top scorer.
5). Hammering the hammers. Hammers AKA West Ham United are the lilywhites opponents at The Lane this evening. That's White Hart Lane where the lilywhites play their home games.

If still not understood I could draw a diagram :D .

So Mark, how high did it rise today?
