• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

What is this??

Need help chaps. Long story short, the length of pipe that my drainage pump slides up and down for maintenance removal, then re-seating against its exit pipe has rusted away and fallen off its mount.

I need to order a replacement but I don’t know what it’s likely to be made of, or what I should use instead.

I’ve chopped a piece off and it looks like some kind of steel, clearly not stainless as it’s rusted.

Pipe length is just over 3.9m.
OD is approx 1 1/16”
Wall thickness 0.1”

So what I need is:

What is it?
Where can I get another one?
Anything else I should use instead?

I know the same will rust again but given this one has lasted 15+ years I’m not overly bothered about that.

Replacement size isn’t critical to be identical, the inner diameter is the key as that sits over a raised nub then a bracket with the sale nub is screwed into the wall at the top to hold it and the pump claw slides over so a midges whisker in size difference won’t harm.

Cheers

That is bog standard iron pipe 3/4" see https://www.metalsupermarkets.co.uk/pip ... ule-chart/

remember iron pipe is sized by the thread that would normally be cut on the pipe - this one would be for 3/4" BSP thread.

od:1.050 and wall thickness 0.113" makes it schedule 40 pipe nominal bore 0.824"
Should be available from a real plumbers merchants but not from the sheds!
You can get it galvanised which should last longer than black iron.

Fantastic, thanks Bob

Any suggestions as to where I might find some up this neck of the woods, or what I should be Googling?

Ideally I’d get it delivered to save my lazy ass from having to go hunting...

EDIT : ignore that, just seen on your link that Trafford is my nearest store, which will be an hours round trip.

Bit confusing to read that was.

Think you are asking for a 3m odd length of pipe which is probably 3/4" malleable iron pipe or steel pipe.

3/4 refers to the bore so the outside should be just over the inch. Plumbers merchants should have it in long lengths. Could be places online selling it.

I type too slow.

The plumbers that did work at my last job used to call it Barrel Pipe.
