• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Woo Hoo....Reacher's back

Daughter a big fan and has read all the books. Watched last night, some of the dialogue is almost comical, eg the police and snap crackle and pop interviews.

I tried a book once and got as far in as the end of the first page. 'Nuff said; not quite Conan Doyle- Rob

"Lee Child" was on Desert Island Disks a while back, highly entertaining.
The pseudonym is derived from household idiosyncrasies being attributed to one side of the family. The infant daughter was apparently a handful and inspired the name. The bad guys names in the stories correspond to the bad guys in a new management team that drove Granada Television to the wall,he lost his job and decided to be an author.
He had always liked Jack and the beanstalk as a kid( first half of the name) and was undecided on the surname. They were shopping in Asda in Kendal and an elderly lady asked him to get an item down from the top shelf. His wife remarked that if he failed as an author he could always work in Asda as a Reacher.
There is allegedly a blue plaque in the premises to commemorate the characters birthplace.

Some fantastic one liners and comebacks from the outset in the new season!

I tried watching an episode of one often series on Netflix some time ago - having heard rumours they were good - but only got part way and gave up. No dragons or wizardry... nor Diddly Squat 😎

Apologies to Roger and others that enjoy.

How about Small Prophets ,Frank?
Or other Macenzie Crook stuff like Detectorists?
Don't recall seeing - but always willing to give a go on someone's recommendation 😁. I see it's on BBC iPlayer...

Not read any of Mackensie Crook books but have seen him in some other films/videos and on TV. Sadly admit to not knowing he is also an author 😕

Small Prophets has no explosions, car chases, sword fights or fire breathing dragons ,just gentle humour and humunculi
Left open for another season too.
"Oi mate,do you sell buckets?

Detectorists was binge- watchable escapism for us and his adaptation of Worzel Gummage was albeit family orientated but charming none the less.

Superb. Both of them were absolutely wonderful. I'm looking forward to another series of Small Prophets. Both of those series were so subtle and gentle that I don't think any non-English would get them at all.

I'll be making every effort to watch 'Small Phophets' and 'Detectorists'... Worzel Gummage, now you mention, was indeed charming...

Mike's description of being along the lines of 'subtle and gentle' etc., sounds intriguing and also that it would appeal to my tastes... Thanks for directing towards 🙏. I'll 'report back' 😊

Agreed, both excellent pieces of television and wonderful casting in both.

Well... series 1, episode 2 "Small Prophets" watched last night... getting to that stage must mean it's *got my attention* 😎.
Do I now continue or track down "Detectorists" before doing so 🤔... you're getting my curiosity going... 😎

(Had your break yet?)

Finish Small Prophets then go to Detectorists. Enjoy each on their own merits without the other stealing any of your concentration.

If you have Sky, you can find the three seasons and two Christmas specials on the BBC iPlayer app.

Thanks Mike. We've got Virgin Media... plus a JCV Freeview TV... watched on BBC iPlayer on that last night - other TV occupied 😊.

I've no doubt that the ones you've mentioned will also be on the JCV TV iPlayer app. I'll look out for them 👍

I've just binge-watched two more episodes of Reacher. It's the afternoon and I have work I should be doing.
I've just seen Reacher naked from the waist up and I now realise why I didn't pass the audition...
S
Did you miss the first two series, Steve?

If you enjoy the fight scenes from Reacher you might also like Alan Ritchson in a very similar role in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare also on Amazon. Just don’t let the facts get in the way of a true story.

Excellent movie that. Ludicrous and you need to suspend all thoughts of authenticity as you say, but a jolly good romp nonetheless.

He also did Playdate movie
It's not a cerebral offering by any standard but imagine him as Jack Reacher out of his comfort zone and it becomes entertaining
