• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Hello

Yo, Steve. You made it :text-bravo:

Cheers

Excellent news. I've sent you an email but the address you gave earlier today was incomplete (while it was still visible) so it may not have reached you.

Yay!! At last.....

Just turn up any old time you like, Steve. :D :D Great to see you here.

No not received anything, Andy, but thank you.
It was supposed to be steve@workshopessentials.com, but perhaps it got edited before it was removed. I have to say I thought I was being moderate and measured, but heigh ho. Anyway, no need for a post-mortem (see what I did there?), it's all history now.

Hello, welcome and likewise about the email...... not sure if I got the address right.
After 18 years it's time for me too.

Welcome to the greener side, Steve :)

Hello Steve. I seem to recall seeing you somewhere else? Nope....just can't place it. Adrian

Actually, Bob, there was another reason, IIRC.
The colour scheme was very difficult to use in the early days. I think there may have been some edits, as it doesn't seem so bad now. The orange/tan text on a pale grey background is very dificult to read, not much contrast. I can't read it at all. OK, most people have better eyesight than I do (my left eye is packing up altogether, I'm hoping the magicians can fix it next year), but that's the way it is.
As the Printing industry maxim goes, , "Black on white, always right".

Steve, I think some browsers have a high contrast optional extension which might help you.

Bob

Well their goes the neighbourhood.

This was once a place of high brow entertainment, now it seems you'll let anyone in.

Hi steve. Welcome back.

Ooh, I'll have to look into that. Thank you.
S

if you use Firefox, go to Tools, then Add-ons and search High Contrast. There are a whole host to choose from but I guess trail and error will be needed to see what works best for you.

Ah, we lull you into a false sense of security ;)

Hey stranger, welcome back, as a person of fine repute you're safe here, you must be as they haven't chucked riffraff like me out....yet. :eusa-whistle:

Hi Steve and welcome back.

I do remember that conversation from a while back now you mention it. In the not too distant future we will be looking to do a wholesale upgrade of the forum software an given the colour them doesn't exist in newer version I will be mindful to make sure that the new colour scheme is friendlier to the visually less gifted. ;)

And please let me know if it really is that bad for you that you don't want to use the forum because changing to one of the default theme's is literally the work of a couple of clicks of the mouse, which I'd much rather do than have people unable to read things.

Thank you Mark. Hey, a Mod who listens! There's a turn up for the books!
Hooda thought it?
:)

Given that I have your attention for a mo, can you see why reply notifications are not reaching me? I'm not getting any, even though I have ticked the Notify Me box. They are not in my Spam folder either.

Ta
Steve

It doesn't really bother me at all but I know a couple of people are reluctant to join up because of the dated layout of the site and the colour scheme is a bit funky.

That said, I think everytime the other place had an update it was met with "Boo! Hiss! it was better before!" Excepting the recent update which was widely praised once people came to grips with it, the only people that didn't like it were the ones that used Tapatalk exclusively. That particular software isn't cheap though by the time you've got all the bells and whistles.

Hi Steve

Do your settings in your User Control Panel look like this under 'Board Settings'?

112211221.jpeg

If not, then make them like that. If they are then I can only suspect they are getting held up by your email provider somehow. The only settings from the forum side are to either allow or not allow notifications across the board, then it's up to individuals to choose whether they want them.

Occasionally we get emails bounced back to the forum from mail providers who don't like them for some reason, (Rogers provider did that recently) but I'm not seeing any for yourself so I suspect they are hiving them off somewhere...

I'll keep looking but I do think it's related to your mail provider somehow.

Genuinely mate, and I mean this with no nastiness, if that's people's reason for not joining a forum then I'm really not that bothered about having them here. If that's something that really bothers people, more than the interactions and the content, then I suspect they are people who will find fault with more than that once members.

I/we don't run this forum for monetary gain (hence the non-monetisation of the place) but purely to have a comfortable and informative place to hang out so while I totally agree it now looks a little dated, it also functions exceptionally so if some people can't get past that it really is their loss. :obscene-drinkingcheers:
