thank you - on the list - the standard smilies are automatic, any which were added extra to the phpbb3 forum need to be added manually here… once they are the text will update on next page reload…A very minor point - the old BBcode for smilies doesn't all map to new ones. So old posts can show a mix of odd punctuation marks.
yes - little icon top right of the reply box, but as the editor is wysiwyg it may not always seem differentIs there still a Preview button when posting?
?! they both give a list of the forums if you click on them, what are you seeing?I think the menu structure could do with some tweaks.
The top level Forums heading doesn't lead to the list of forums - they are under Home instead.
yes - the system has built in that if you go to any random URL (e.g. woodhaven2.co.uk/sharpening-the-debate) it doesn't at that point look for the URL and say that it doesn't exist, it first checks if you are logged in... as you are not, it takes you to the log in page but remembers what you were looking for to find post login... having logged in it then can't find the url so gives an error... as above - just re-bookmark!I got the same. I think it's because my old bookmark was pointing at the "current topics" list on the old software. Try making a new bookmark pointing to "new posts".
Thanks Andy. That fixed it.Try making a new bookmark pointing to "new posts".
@MikeGI'm afraid it doesn't, and Im on Windows 10 too.

I know there is a digest option but I think the default is that it is sent to those who haven’t been on the forum for a while to encourage them back… I will have a look at how it works - in particular if we do find a solution it would have to something you could choose to turn on as not everyone would want it…I hope this hasn’t been answered already and if so, sorry. Am I able to ask for a daily email with the previous day’s posts/activity?
Alt up arrow doesn't work for me either (win 10 + Firefox). I just use the links at the top of the browser page to move on.

That is simply the default settings - as guest you can see the structure and activity but not the contents for which you have to sign up…I see it's now login to read, I'm not fussed but someone on UKW ain't too impressed on joining something he can't browse beforehand .
Should we be lowering our prices ? .....
Cheers, Andy
Could I suggest a compromise - make the written content openly visible but require an account to show pictures. That is simply the default settings - as guest you can see the structure and activity but not the contents for which you have to sign up…
It is an interesting philosophical question - if someone wants to read / consume the content but not sign in - presumably they simply want to take not contribute, not very community focused…
There is an option to say don’t show attachments however it doesn’t quite seem to work like that - it shows photos as thumbnails and asks you to log in to see the full version if you click on it… even where a full image was embedded in a post it is reduced to a thumbnail when you are not logged in - but it doesn’t remove them…Could I suggest a compromise - make the written content openly visible but require an account to show pictures.
I’m afraid I can’t get too excited by that. If someone’s willing to write something off…actually, no I won’t bother. It’s changed so if said person wants to have a look they can, if they don’t then I won’t be losing any sleep.I see it's now login to read, I'm not fussed but someone on UKW ain't too impressed on joining something he can't browse beforehand .

The for sale forum on here is only viewable by those logged in…The MIG welding forum has a few specific sub-forums that are only visible to members (if memory serves me correctly, it's the "For Sale" section, the "Introductions" page (for new members to say hi) and a specific (semi-) "Private Forum" for people who want to post stuff without it being accessible to google and co.
That seemed like a relatively sensible idea to me.
Alasdair, is there an optimum pixel (or Byte) size for images for the software to handle, for instance my keyboard images above have been expanded to full page (on my system anyway) is this the case regardless of source? it seems unnecessary in your face for such in this instance. Now set to that - guests can see all content but photos are only small… log in to see full size images…
yes, been thinking that and will look into it… it may be as simple as a css line in the codeAlasdair, is there an optimum pixel (or Byte) size for images for the software to handle, for instance my keyboard images above have been expanded to full page (on my system anyway) is this the case regardless of source? it seems unnecessary in your face for such in this instance.
Is there an option in the settings for a slightly smaller (framed image) that will expand on selection (halfway house between attachment and full image)
thank you, happy to look if you know where it is - send me a pm…Don't know if it was the result of site transfer to new platform but noticed a You Tube link that was no longer live in old thread.
See this Post
thanks - interesting to hear… I think it makes sense in that environment where you know all the possible members and a lot of the discussion may be private, but our potential market is anyone worldwide and we are talking about public topics so I wouldn’t be bothered about locking down for confidentiality reasons… the only thinking is that ideally a forum wants to encourage people to join in, so the structured should focus on not putting people off, but equally encouraging them to sign up and join in…Like Mike I have had the dubious pleasure of administering a XenForo forum. It was a motorcycle club that was a training club for the IAM and RoSPA as well as a social club. A conscious decision was made by the Committee to restrict viewing of the forum to the 600 or so members only as the consensus was that if people did not wish to join the club itself, there was no reason why they should see exchanges between members. Obviously there was far more to it than just a web presence. Maybe we are a bit different. However, I for one would be willing to subscribe modestly in order to relieve the financial burden on Mark and the other mods. There is no real reason why people who are not willing to participate actively should be able to see what goes on I suppose.

I repeat: 'How will they know, what is going on behind the walls of a closed shop; what is going on with in it?' How will they be aware that content - attractive to their lifestyle - is there?"There is no real reason why people who are not willing to participate actively should be able to see what goes on I suppose."
