• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Cake Stand

Our best friends daughter is getting married next month. She is a creative type and is planning a DIY reception. I got asked to make a stand for the wedding cakes. Something like this - a picture of some perspex creation that looked like it would break if you leaned on it... but I want it white...

    sextortion scam email

New one on me I have to say. Got an email this morning saying pay me $8000 or I'll expose what you were doing while viewing a porn site by showing a recording from your web cam. As proof they 'hacked' my system they gave one of my saved passwords in the email. Seeing a password was a little...

    spiral cutter planer/thicknesser Delivered today

Just changed the blades on my planer thicknesser. Weather is OK today so I'm a bit scared to use it due to my wife complaining about the noise it makes! Think I'll wait for bad weather when no neighbours are in their gardens. Never had a complaint but as it is loud with ear defenders on I'll...

    Computer Desk WIP

For some time now I've been thinking about making myself a new desk for the computer and all the stuff that goes with it. Currently I have a cut down office desk saved from back when I had a business. The room I'm typing this in is a small box room bedroom so the desk is cut to 2 foot front to...

    Furniture from used wood flooring?

I'm thinking about a new desk system for the computer room (smallest bedroom) and my ideas will involve a lot of wood. The amount of oak involved set me wondering about other sources and solid wood flooring comes in around 18mm thick with one side nice and the other grooved to reduce cupping I...

    New roof on my workshop...

Having re roofed the garden shed with EPDM I've now bought some more for the more ambitious job of re covering my workshop roof. 30+ years ago I rebuilt our single garage and not knowing any better made the roof with 4x2 timbers and 1/2" shuttering ply. The 4x2's have stood up pretty well with...

    EPDM shed roof

My shed roof has has been leaking for a while but it got worse recently. It was covered with a decent grade felt but it had started to split and needed replacing. I could have just bought new felt but with past talk on here of EPDM I thought I had to give it a go. Not knowing where to get it...

    Sketchup Make kinda discontinued..

I've built myself a new PC and am adding software back on as I need it. Just came to download the latest free version of sketchup. They seem to want you to use a version that does not install and just runs in your web browser. Searching with google it seems make 2017 is as far as it will go...

    Amazon not so prime

Just wondering if I'm having a run of bad luck or if Amazon's deliveries are going down the pan.. 6 months ago nearly everything that was prime eligible, shown as 'in stock' and was sold and sent by Amazon themselves (ie not a seller on amazon) came the next day. In the last month I've placed...

    Subsiding Shed..

Around 11 years ago I built a shed in my garden. Quite close to the shed in a neighbours garden was a monster size Black poplar tree. A few years ago he noticed some rot in the main trunk and had the tree removed. This thing had a 4 to 5 foot diameter trunk and cost him (I think) £2k to get...

    Storage shed build

Ok so this is not an example of best practice but it will do the job and is similar to the way I built my own shed 12 years ago and its still standing with no problems. I'll be honest and say now the reason for not making a 'proper' base is simply that I couldn't face the effort it would...

    Holiday Photos.. some involving woodwork

Just over a week ago I came back from Singapore with loads of pictures and a really bad cold and cough. Now my eyes are sore with some kind of conjunctivitis. Hence the delay in posting some pictures that might be of interest. First up is a place near Pattaya Thailand. Called the Sanctuary of...

If it seems too good to be true...

It probably is with Amazon sellers. So I'm thinking of buying an expensive lens for my second camera - one I bought for travelling because it is lighter than my DSLR kit. Today one appears 'used as new' from a seller on Amazon uk and is cheaper than used on ebay. With Amazons A-Z guarantee in...

Vacuuming a hole in the road

We having our gas mains replaced. Interesting hole making technique - they break up the dirt then vacuum it out of the hole. Covering my car with dirt in the process though they have at least put a dust sheet over it to catch the worst. The guy with the thin pipe has a compressed air lance...

    Found videos thread?

Now and again I stumble across an interesting video that others here might like as well and I'm sure I'm not the only one that finds things. Here is a guitar making one I watched the first half of last night and i'll finish watching later today - it's an hour long. It is also in HD so don't...

    Bee swarm..

Neighbours just asked if we had seen a lot of bees. there is a swarm in their tree in their garden but on the side facing ours. Not worried by them. just something I've never seen before. the block of bees is about the size of 2 footballs. Seems they may go away when they feel like it...

    Workshop visitor

I got called to remove a frog from the patio. Frogs are what a cat would design as an ideal toy. Poke a frog and it will leap in the air and let out a loud squeak. Our cat was sitting next to this frog ready to make its life a misery. She doesn't injure or kill them but they don't escape until...

    Basic cupboard doors

And way too many pictures :) I had my phone in my pocket and it was easy to take pictures - so I did. probably too many. Feel free to not look too carefully... So I spent forever painting the hall stairs and landing and everything is clean and fresh looking - except the old coat cupboard. It...

    My workshop...

I've posted pictures of projects on here before but never of my workshop. There is a danger I might make something soon, albeit simple stuff, so i thought I'd have a tidy up. To celebrate relative tidiness after months of semi shambles I took some pictures. This is the view from the garden...
